Roller Blading/Hockey Equipment Requirements

Children participating in any of the Rollerblading or Roller Hockey classes must be equipped with the following protective gear:

• Helmet with face guard (bicycle helmets are not permitted)
• Wrist Guards
• Elbow Pads & Knee Pads

Rollerblading is the fastest growing recreational sport in North America.
Proper equipment is the key to preventing most injuries.

Here are some tips for buying proper fitting equipment:

Helmets:
Helmets must be CSA (Canadian Standards Association) approved. Helmets can reduce the risk of head injury by 85%. They are safer than bicycle helmets because they provide more protection for the back of the head - skaters tend to fall backwards and cyclists tend to fall forward - hence the difference in design.

Wrist Guards:
Wrist guards should fit over your hands like a glove to absorb the shock of a fall.

Elbow and Knee Pads:
Elbow pads and knee pads should be cushioned and fit snugly. If they are too small, they will pop off; if they are too big they will slide off.

Note: Parents are not permitted on roller blades in the parent assisted Rollerblading class.
